Bitly: Did you notice anything peculiar in the works cited? What was odd about the web addresses? Did they not seem awful short? I used Bitly to shorten the web address into a condensed URL but still with all of the power to take you to that specific site. All you have to do is go to bitly.com, copy and paste your web address in and out will come a shorter URL. This is most useful when making a presentation with limited slide space or many addresses. It is also commonly used on Twitter where there is a limit of 140 characters per tweet. You can sign up for free or with your facebook or twitter accounts. Once you do, enjoy making bitmarks, which are organized bundles of your web addresses that you can easily share with your students or parents publically or privately. This is a great way to safely manage what your students see on the web when doing research or other in class or at home activities on line. Just supply the students with the Bitly links so that they are not aimlessly searching the web for unknown content. With the stats feature, you can also note who has opened your Bitly links which is useful to note which student is using them or not and when. Bitly is a terrific tool for managing safely how students surf the net while being an effective organization and display tool for long URLs.
